Aperture –

A hole/circle that makes light pass in the lens and throughout the camera.

A small aperture doesn’t give any background blur unlike higher apertures. This would normally be used within establishing shots.

Aperture is known as “F-Number” or “F-Stop”.

Also the smaller the numbers on the aperture means there is more aperture.

They work like this;

F/2.8 F/4  F/5.6  F/8  F/11  F/16

F/2.8 is a shallow Depth of Field and F/16 is a larger DoF.

Shallow tends to be a smaller blur, adding more created a deeper depth.

Depth of Field –

Images have a large or deep DoF, this is where both foreground and background are sharp.

You would use this when you want to focus on a certain object, a flower for example, there would be loads of flowers in the field but if you wanted to just focus on one it would blur the other flowers and then make the main flower sharp and the main

Shutter Speed –

This changes the brightness of your photo and can create dramatic effects.

Fast shutter speeds are used at fast paced action, an example would be a dolphin jumping in and out of the ocean.

A slower shutter speed are, of course, slower. They can take up to a few seconds or minutes to close the shutter to gain more light. This is tend to be used on stuff like waterfalls, stars in the sky, objects in the night, so basically very dim environments.

ISO –

This is a camera setting. This will either brighten or darken your photo. The higher the ISO, the brighter.

When you double the speed of the ISO, you double the brightness.
