Unit 2 : Task 3 – Proposal

Audience I Am Targeting & How –

The main audience I am targeting is of course, teens from the age of 14+ to young adults from the age of 20 – 24. The reason for this big age gap is that these people have either grown up in social media and technology or grown up without it and then at an early stage of their life become to make it an aspect. I will be asking older people in my factual film on their opinions also so it is not bias on just young people’s opinions.

How I will be doing this is by creating a survey/questionnaire on surveymonkey.com and will be asking some of my friends and people I know online. I will be spreading this questionnaire within a link to people on, funny enough, social media. For the two older people I will be interviewing for the film I will be asking them questions personally.

What the Topic is and How it Fulfils the Brief –

My original topic was about obesity within teens, but I changed it after I couldn’t think of anything good for the film and research and although I do prefer the obesity topic I am now doing it about social media. The main topic title is “Social Media and the Impact it Has on Teens.” I chose this because I realised that younger people in this generation has become so dependant and stuck to it, even myself is. I found it so interesting because when I was growing up from the ages of 1 to 12 I didn’t use social media, or as much as I do today and how it’s the same for everyone else or even younger people in this generation who were that age and using social media.

The reason it fulfils the brief is because it is a main issue/topic within this generation’s society and of course it’s very relevant too. You hear stories about cyberbullying, cause of depression or suicide from it, catfishes, threats, just any issue you can think of. My plan is to find out what people think about it from all ages (mainly younger people) and to know if they are aware of how big social media is now and how it has impacted so much of their lives and is a lifestyle for them.

Production Plan & Justification for Crew Choice –

My plan for production is to obviously create a 2 minute factual film about my topic. My plan is to interview three people in this film, one 18, one 42, and the other 66. So a wide range of ages and ask them questions in between. While doing this I will also be filming little clips to add into these interviews to make them more dramatic and interesting. These little clips will consist of close ups of phones, computers, someone using a phone, someone walking down the street on their phones and if I can think of anything else clever to add I will. I am planning on having the equipment for a few days just in case I need any reshoots. But the filming process will not be anything special or hard as it is pretty simple.

The reason I chose these 3 people for my cast/crew is because of their age and their availability for me, they all live very close to me so I don’t have to travel far. Of course I have the age groups for their opinions and thoughts so I can get good results and information.

What Equipment and Locations I Will Require –

For the equipment, I will be needing a DLSR Camera to record the interviews and little clips. This is pretty obvious of why I need this.
I will be using a microphone that will be attached to the camera for the best audio I can get and audio is going to be very important in my film as I am interviewing people.
I will also be using a tripod for the interviews as it helps keep the camera steady and it helps me look at the questions, it’s also professional for interviews.

The locations I require isn’t much. All I need is a basic room in my Nan’s house to do the interview on, a street outside my house where the weather is fine, if not, then I will continue to just use the house.

The general plot, structure and message I am trying to communicate with people is what their thoughts and possibly experience within social media growing up. How it impacted them, if it even did. Knowing why they become so reliable on it and then asking thoughts from some older people too.
