My work fulfils the brief. I did four films that all have a big representation of race, culture and ethnicity. Most of it all equally spread out between 250/300 words apart from the Django one as that is the biggest and longest film out of all four.
The areas I found difficult was referencing the research for the films, main reason is because all of it was based off my notes and my thoughts when watching the film. I did reference the films but other than that. So I did some research for my last film, Get Out, I referenced the work I found and the film itself. I wouldn’t say I gained any new skills within this work.
My strengths would be that I wrote a lot of notes for the films which shows how involved I am with the subject but also shows that I could write more than the word count if needed to. I watched 3 of the 4 films more than once so I have a better understanding of what is going on, it allowed me to dive into it more than other’s who saw it only once. Another strength I would like to point is with the movies I chose, I chose one that is subtle with their culture, race and ethnicity and that isn’t spoken a lot through-out the film and allows for hidden messages and meaning and then the other is highly based on the person’s race and culture, it allows me to work both ways and see how differently it’s played.
My weaknessess would be that I didn’t do a lot of research for these films, I didn’t really feel the need to as I wrote a lot of notes for the film and understood the subject matter a lot and had a lot to say about it. Another is that I only watched four Lions once, I could’ve watched it again and spoke about the stuff I missed through-out the film.
I managed my time and recourses well, I basically watched a film a week and wrote about it through-out that week.
The feedback I gained was good, people enjoyed that I spent more words on Django as it was the biggest film, they liked how I chose Wind River as one, they said that it was good that I did a film with Native people in it as it was different. They also liked the difference between the two films I chose, from one being subtle and one being a major issue in the films, they said it adds new perspective for writing and understanding.
